I'm sure everybody here is familiar with the Seinfeld "Contest" episode.

I'd be interested to see the results if the members of this forum held a similar contest, only in this case it would be seeing how long you could go without listening to any GD.

Went nine years without. August 1995 to December 2004. First computer, first day on the internet found the IA. Took months on dial up to get every show I ever attended. All 101, two a night, pre SBD ban, and kick myself that they're all MP3.

When it comes to Christmas music, I prefer the standards over most anything newer.....Sinatra, Bing crosby, Nat King Cole etc, etc. The stuff Mom and Dad played when I was a kid is still the stuff I like the most.....well except for Santa Claus and his old lady by Cheech and Chong!! :)

I agree with the older being better..Coles version of "Chestnuts" is still my favorite. Two newer ones you might want to check out are The Carpenters(yup I said the Carpenters!! Cant believe it myself sometimes) also the Manhatten Transfer. These are two

Does anyone else remember the Christmas albums you used to get with a fill-up at gas stations back in the '60s.

My parents still have and play the Firestone Christmas album they got at a Texaco station some 40 years ago. Nat, Bing, Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Glenn Campbell, Andre Previn, Johnny Mathis, Roger Whitaker, and many others.

One of my favorites......

Julie Andrews -

"I saw three ships go sailing by,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day
I saw three ships go sailing by,
On Christmas Day in the morning."

Sigh. Mando gettin' all nostalgic and stuff.

Mando << Wipes happy memory tear from eye.

Mando - the Goodyear album we had was THE Christmas album growing up. My mom still has it - as I recall, ours had color images of each singer's face in little boxes all around the cover. I actually miss hearing the old Christmas songs that don't seem to get much play anymore. You know, it's hard to find a Good King Wencesclas or O Tannenbaum these days....

Edit: originally thought mine was a Firestone, but it was Goodyear - see example cover:

Although this would be a good exercise in self control, why would I want to prevent myself from doing something that makes me feel good?

Well, if it were a contest obviously there would have to be some sort of pay-off at the end. If you have to give up something you don't care much about, it's not really that much of a challenge.

And of course I never said I would personally participate either! I'm not even close to mentally strong enough to give up the one thing that gets me through a 9 hour work day.

I run about 44,100 minutes per year of GD music. If that were Television I would be subjected to 17,640 minutes of advertisement per year not counting 1/2 hour info ads.

Shoot your t.v.
